Are you using USB or Ethernet to connect to the empeg ? There is a known problem with XP and USB that should be fixed in the next software update.

The details are here:

Okay do you know what ethernet is there is a good chance that your computer may have an ethernet port already if it does all you need is a cross over cable not too difficult to find.

Ethernet is basically what most computer use for talking to each other over a network.

If you look at the back of the empeg (if mk2 or mk2a) the ethernet is the one next to usb that looks like a phone point

Where abouts are you

Where'd you get the unit from if it didn't come with a serial cable?

Welp, you'll need a null modem cable. Most electronics/computer type stores should have one... possibly Radio Shack. Should work after you upgrade.

when i go to emplode it says the version of emplode is not compatible with the unit.

You might not need the serial upgrade cable just yet. I mean, you definitely need it eventually, but if you want to get things working fast without a trip to the store, you merely need to match your emplode version to your player version.

What version of the player software is on the unit, and what version of emplode did you install on the PC? (Find out by selecting ABOUT on the player and ABOUT in emplode.)

If the player is at version 2.0-something, and the emplode is at 1.0-something, then upgrade to the latest emplode (2.0 beta 13 at this writing, available from the links above). And if it's opposite, then dowgrade emplode to 1.03 (also available from the same place).

Remember to deinstall the existing emplode before installing another version.

i got that all figured out. but now i am having some install problems when i tried to put it in my car. i am having some problems matching my empeg wiring harness with my car harness. the black harness has 6 wires extending from it. oragne, grren, white, yellow, back, blue. i dont have a matching wire for green (tel mute) or white( lights on). and the red power wire coming from my car harness does not have a match in the empeg harness. so i cannot get the player to power on in the car. can anyone help? thanks.

Don't go by the colors of the wiring harness. You need to know what each of the wires on your car do, not just color match them. If you try to color-match things, you'll blow a fuse for sure (or worse).

If you don't know what each of the wires do, then you need to look it up or buy an adapter kit. click here for important information about this.

Right, because the colors are meaningless.

For example: On your aftermarket harness, the ignition-switched power will probably be colored red, and on the empeg, the ignition-switched power is colored orange.

So don't match colors. Match FUNCTIONS, not colors. Each of the empeg wires is labeled with their function. If you don't know the functions of the wires on your harness, you need to find them out (and not by trial and error... you need real live instructions).

What is the make and model of your car?

my harness is labled though.

Ah, then you should have no problem. There's an aftermarket amp in there already, right?

Well, there are two power wires. Depends on what you've hooked to what.

For example, on many aftermarket harnesses, the headlight-sense wire is colored orange. If you hooked the headlight-sense wire from your car to the orange wire on the empeg, you might have blown the interior light fuse on your car's fuse panel. Then again, maybe nothing bad happened, it depends on a few factors. In any case, if things don't work after you've hooked it all up correctly, then start checking fuses. Good luck.

Sounds about right. You also need the Amp remote wire, and the RCA connections to the amps. You only need the telephone mute if you have a hands-free telephone kit installed in your car. Otherwise, insulate it so it doesn't ground on other stuff behind the dash.
