I am trying to use my empeg for the first time, and it doesn't seem to be working. It turns on and everything, but I cannot get to the main screen of emplode, and it will not let me upgrade the software. I am using the serial port on the correct com for the upgrade, and the usb otherwise. I do not think my computer is finding the empeg. When I try to upgrade the empeg to version 1.0 it says "empeg not found stage 0x10" Can anyone please help???!!!??!?!??!??

..When did you get your empeg? Could it be that you received the wrong serial cable? Due to a mess-up with the cable supplier, Empeg was shipping an incorrect serial cable for a time... you need a null-modem cable..

How do i know if i have the wrong serial cable?

i got my empeg last friday, and ordered it a week before that. I think they identified the problem before mine was shipped. I am not sure though.

Until then, though: can you see if you can apply the version 1 upgrade file to the unit? Unfortunately, if you were one of those who got sent a dud serial cable (there is an area on the plug moulding with either straight lines or a crosshatch pattern: straight lines is ok, crosshatch is from the dud batch - well, the proper cables will also have a crosshatch, but none of these have gone out yet) then upgrading the unit might be tough :(

It's also possible that you have a loose hdd cable - some of the empeg's have unfortunately arrived that way:( You should drop a note to support@empeg w/ your findings, so that they can help you when they get in tommorow..

This should really go via support@empeg, but does the empeg go past the screen showing "empeg" when you turn it on?

yes, it does. It appears the empeg is working, but I can't get my computer to find it. My USB connection may be fouled up because I also have a palm pilot, and I can't get it to hook up with my serieal connection either.

If you are trying to use the serial cable with the same serial port that you use for your Palm Pilot, make sure that you right click on the Palm icon in the system tray, then "Exit". You can't use HiperTerminal and have the Palm sync software loaded at the same time...
