Mouse? I used to have one of those... About 4 or 5 years ago I made the switch to using touchpads full time on my home and work PC's, and haven't looked back. Never had one fail on me, either.

What, like on a notebook? I didn't know such a thing existed. Isn't it a PITA to use? I have enough problems with my notebook's touchpad - I find it 'unergonomic'.

Yeah, like the ones on a notebook. What's unergonomic about it? Moving your thumb or index finger around across a 2.5" x 1.5" rectangle is, to me, more ergonomic than repetive motion of a mouse. I never liked trackballs or those little rubber eraser things, but touchpads work great for me. Plus the one I have (built into these now-discontinued keyboards) allows me to click mouse buttons and scroll horizontally and vertically using certain areas of the touchpad. It was about a week of adjustment for me, but I'd never go back. It's hard to find keyboards with touchpads these days though, guess they don't sell well.

Yeah. I use a touchpad pretty much all the time now. You can buy standalone touchpads which have a PS2 plug on them.
The only time I bother to plug in a mouse is when I wanted to play something like HalfLife. A touchpad sucks for aiming

It must be. I came back from my little road trip and all of the skeet that I had been carefully raising were dead. Sniff!

Interesting. My girlfriend's mouse just stopped working. I would have assumed it was due to the fact that it's bluetooth via MS implementation, but her keyboard still works, and that's part of the package.

Touchpad? You're crazy, man. But hey, it's all subjective. Some people swear by trackballs, and I think they're crazy too. Next thing you know they'll be manufacturing those IBM eraser mice for desktops. I guess it's a question of what you want to move more - your fingers or your wrist.

But can lead to some interesting gaming sessions. Try putting two fingers spaced apart on the pad, then lift one. When you touch the pad again, it should cause the character to turn instantly. A friend of mine was telling me about one game he played online doing this, and several people thought he was cheeting until he explained it.

I see what you mean. There's no actual limit on how fast you can turn apart from the physical limitations on the mouse itself. Everybody thinks you're using an aimbot though! It's not that useful for me still.
It's still not that great for me though I can't aim quickly enough by dragging my finger around

It certainly is, I couldn't use a regular mouse anymore.
Plus the one I have (built into these now-discontinued keyboards) allows me to click mouse buttons and scroll horizontally and vertically using certain areas of the touchpad.

Should you ever need to replace your touchpad, have a look at one of these. One finger moves the text cursor, two the mouse cursor, three doubleclick/drag, four fingers scroll. There are gestures for cut/copy/paste, undo/redo, web browsing, file operations, alt-f4, emacs, ... the newest software release even allows you to redefine the behavior of these gestures.

Wow. That's way out of my price range for a pointing device, but it does look very cool. Maybe if I ever see one used for $50 or so I'll pick one up.

And where exactly did you imagine *they* came from?

Belly-Button lint. Escaped belly-button lint.

Simple solution: you need more bare belly buttons near your computer to capture the stray lint.

Either that, or open up the mouse ((two screws on the underside, usually) and, after barfing at the sight of immense amounts of lint, clean it all out thoroughly.

Good for another 5 years.

Cheers

Yes, but did she press the wee 'Connect' buttons after doing so? Sometimes they require a loupe to read the markings.

Nope, you've lost me....

I confess with apologies that I succumbed to the urge to *pull* ...a leg or two. It must have been my monthly Car Talk skeet flashback what done it.
