God, that reads like an urban legend.

I'm all for archeological science and stuff, but someone tell me what importance a turd has to archeology?

And if you say "learning about their diet", okay that's fine but you can't do that if you keep the thing well-preserved in one piece. So what archeological reason would they have to preserve it in one piece?

You didn't read the last paragraph:

My favorite part of the article... the Viking relic was broken into three pieces during a recent school visit "You touch it" "No way dude, you touch it."
