SWMBO & I recently returned from a stay in Paris at chez Mach. During our time there, we visited a number of geocaches (11), and tons of Museums and stuff. To keep my jetlagged brain awake, I focused my photography on a particular theme.. and the (massive) results are now up here.

Cheers (and thanks again Alvin!)

Mark & SWMBO

Yeah. Scary thing is, he appears to have near zero talent.. until one looks at something like this one after having seen the original version by Manet (hanging at the Orsay, but I didn't get a photo of it).

Cheers

At the recent, insanely popular, Matisse/Picasso exhibition at the Tate Modern in London, there was a sequence of three pictures, hanging in a row, where you could almost hear the conversation:

Picasso: Hey. Matisse, what do you reckon to this? <picture 1>
Matisse: That's bollocks, Picasso, you don't wanna paint it like that, you wanna paint it like this: <picture 2>
Picasso: On the contrary! If I were going to paint that, I'd have painted it like this: <picture 3>

Oops.. the Manet was not at the Orsay, but rather at a private muse where photography was not permitted. But I did just now find a web copy of it, and added it to the paris pics for comparism here.

Are you sure that's the same Paris Mrs. Boxer and I visited in April? You're about 500% more observant than us!

Well, mostly we were hunting for space invaders (without a map of their locations), so we kept the ole eyeballs open and found all kinds of interesting works of art. And inside the museums, well.. a guy's gotta do something to keep awake!

What's the story with the space invaders? Is it just a guerilla art project ala the Obey guy?

the irony about Picasso is...He could draw like an old master artist when he was a kid, and he painted like a kid when he was an adult.

Altough He lived almost his life in France, I'll never understandd people finding Talent to Picasso.

yes there are great painters at Orsay Museum but for me the Best Workd is done at Versailles.

Louis the XIV by lack of money (spending money while people whas hungry and angry also) ask decorative painters to do th jod at Versailles.

So many of woods are fake but painted by these decorators in Trompe L'Oeil.
Marbles and so on ... (did you notice that Mark ?)

Amazing Job

and good pictures Mark

Well, SWMBO read The DaVinci Code (book) while we were in Paris, but that particular photo was for the Meridien Zero geocache. Arago was a frenchman who tried to establish Paris as the zeroeth meridian for time zones, and has a set of 139(?) of those brass markers laid in a N/S line as the reference.

But the Brits eventually took over in that field.

We noticed some overt Tompe L'Oeil, and a large number of chairs had fake lime finishes on them, but didn't really look much closer. The place was Sooooo crowded and noisy with masses of visitors. That's why I mostly just photographed ceilings at Versailles -- fewer people in the way of those than the wall paintings and stuff.

Cheers

Nicely done! Looks like we'll have to make a trip over to the Orsay before we depart for southern climes. There's some some Monets there that I haven't seen.

We enjoyed the visit. You and SJS are welcome anytime.
