I've noticed a lot of new members on the boards lately... is it just me?

1st Wave: empeg (always lowercase! ) Mk1 is shown at www.empeg.com... queue builds up...
2nd Wave: empeg Mk2 hits the streets....
3rd Wave: RioCar (empeg Mk2a) comes out? No... nobody knew it came out thanks to Rio! the 3rd Wave was when the RioCar was discontinued and everyone picked up a player for $200.
4th Wave: At first I thought the increase in new members was due to the Karma, but most new members seem to have empegs.... are these people that picked "closeout" RioCars 2nd hand?

I just started visiting this BBS a few weeks ago (after a 3 month leave) so maybe I'm off base here?

Actually, I've been lurking for some time now. Been frequenting the site as a non-member since I got my empeg (right after Rio released the Mk2a).

I just didn't have time to say much of anything until I became gainfully unemployed. ;^)

I was a 2nd wave, but by the time I got round to buying my empeg it had become a RioCar. Sadly I bought it about a month too early to sit in the cheap seats

I registered back in '99 then rapidly lost the ability to actually purchase one. Eventually I ended up buying one secondhand, later getting a spare in the firesale.
Which would explain why I keep referring to them as "Empegs" even though I own two RioCars

Actually, empeg is always lower case, but you're still part of the club! I think that it's cool that some people wanted an empeg for so long and were finally able to get one. I remember when my Mk2 arrived, after a week of customs (!) headaches. I opened the package and could believe that I was actually viewing this gadget that I had coveted for so long! Years later, I'm still impressed by it and see nothing on the horizon that will replace it!

It's also nice to see that most of the people who only found out about the empeg when they were clearanced for $200 have also come to appreciate it for what it truely is.

I am part of wave 1, 2 and 3. Originally signed up and got Mark 1 number 128, but was skint so sold it to my brother. Then bought a Mark 2 20Gb which I sold to my bro to get some money 'cos I was skint, then eventually bought a 2a 60Gb which (as I was skint again) I swapped for my brothers' 20Gb Mark 2. Now I have added a 40Gb so between us we have two 60Gb Mark IIs and a 20Gb Mark 1 as emergency backup.

I want a Karma, but...

I'm skint
