I have a question about Soup Playlists in Jemplode - I've had a look in the FAQ but cant find the answer anywhere...

When Creating A Soup playlist with the following layers:

Genre -> Artist - > Album (Source)

How can i get the tracks in a particular album to play in track number order? By default they appear to play in alphabetical order (by track name)

Anyone have any ideas ?

Rich

Thats a shame... seems like an obvious thing for it to really, i mean why would you want the tracks to play alphbetically?

Obvious to request does not equal obvious to implement

Without implementing custom sort orders, in the general case the only sensible thing I can do is sort alphabetically. For instance, order by track # only makes sense if Album is the bottom of your stack -- it wouldn't if you had Artist at the bottom.

Well.. actually you can! (sort of)

If you create a soup playlist with the layers:

Genre -> Artist -> Source

then expand the playlist so that you can see the albums (source) and then select one of them, so that you can see the track listing, then add the Track column and click on it's header to sort by Track Number.

If you then go though and right click on the idividual playlists and click "Set Playlist Order". The tracks will then play in the correct order on the player...

I know that you have to do this manually for each album, but at least it works!! - and dosnt really take that long to do (depends on how many albums you have i guess)

That may cause problems for future updates to the soup playlists ... I'm not entirely sure what will happen ... I would guess you may get duplicates in there sometimes since things won't be sorted in the way it expects them to be.
