After playing with my empeg for a while, I figured out something... The darn volume knob is on the right because it is meant for people in England who have the drivers seat in the right of the car.

I think it would be a good idea to design the Mark3 (or 4 depending on what phase you are in in development) to have a symmetrical display plate that contains the controls. To convert your unit to a left-volumn-knob unit, all you would have to do is remove the face-plate & flip it over.

The knob is on the right because the buttons remained in exactly the same position as the Mark 1. There were reasons for this, at the time. It is unlikely that we'll want to change the fascia anytime soon - the tooling was very expensive.

In any case, it could be argued that it is advantageous to have the knob on the right in left hand drive cars. It is usually more important to be able to see the screen clearly while operating the menus and other button functions than while turning the knob.

The logical solution (if you really were bothered by this) would be to have a software option in emplode to make the player display it's screen upside down. That way you could install the sled upside down in the console and still have the display the correct way up.

How this would affect the hard disks and the shock mountings, though, is anybody's guess.

Ooh ooh and then you could install some kind of sensor that detects what direction it's pointed and adjusts the display properly. Like those old Radius portrait/landscape monitors for the Mac.

I'm kidding of course. The way I see it, the product is made in England so I expect things to be "backwards" from my American point of view. Doesn't bother me in the least.

Agreed,

I have to move my hand down to see the empeg menus when navigating via the volume button.

That's why I mainly use the buttons on the far (for me) left.
