It’s actually an iPod article, but I don't see why it wouldn't work for a karma, or any other portable player.

*Hint to Rio/DNNA* Include that adapter (if it’s cheap enough to justify) with the newer products please. Or maybe just have those available on rioaudio.com?

The effectiveness of the TotalRemote adapter depends on the quality of the audio output port/circuit in the device. The Karma should work as I hope it's audio output is of very high quality.

But the usefullness of such a device on an audio player is questionable at best. I saw the original version Griffen had made for the iPod. Making the newer version for PocketPC was a smart move. It can totally replace a Pronto remote. The only reason to use the audio adapter is to make up for the usually poor IR strength of PocketPC's IrDA ports. Some PPC models however (like my HP 2215) has CiR built in though - so no need for an adapter.

And if you take the time to read the website linked you'll see someone say it won't work properly because you can only get a 22KHz signal out... True (out of one channel), but if you use two emitters, one for each channel, each at 22, you're back up to a respectable 44KHz. And that's exactly what the Griffen unit does.

And lastly, it's easy to convert an Ir waveform into a sound file. No need to even learn any of your existing "codes" if you can find something out there on the net in a documented format. Don't ask why I know all this stuff.

It is still kind of a neat hack, though. I kind of like the idea of being able to control anything (including the empeg) with a Karma...

Neat!

If anyone buying one is willing to get one extra and ship it to Sweden (costs covered via Paypal) I'd be very grateful... None of the shops listed seem to be 'export-minded'...

Tossing on codes for channel change and volume could lead to a lot of fun by leaving the karma in a room and having it shuffle play, along with some blank "spacer" songs to make the effect seem completly random.

Thank you!

Didn't think anyone carried it in Sweden... Twice the cost, but what the heck...

Edit: jeeezz... They only ship via Swedish FedEx and that adds another US$54 !!!!! Gives a total of about US$105...

Any UK sources, willing to export, with more reasonable shipping terms?

I did a conversion from the UK price and it worked out at 373 SEK inc postage to me. I bet Expansys ship that from their UK warehouse, so that's why the postage is so high!

I don't suppose the postage on to you would be too much, PM if you want me to put in an order.

I've had a quick look around and can't find it any cheaper in the UK, how much does it go for in the US???

Cheers

Cris.

Looks to be from $25 to $35 most places...

But for 370 SEK or so + (sane ) postage UK->Sweden I'm game.

Let me know how you want to handle payment!
