Lately I've been seeing commercials on tv for what is called Restless Legs Syndrome. After seeing the commercial I visited their website http://www.restlesslegs.com and then went and saw my doctor and found out that it can be treated with medication. For the first time in many ages, I woke up today feeling like I actually got some sleep and it is a wonderful experience. If you wonder why you can't sit still or relax and wake up feeling like you got no sleep at all, visit the website. I've been suffering most of my life with this never knowing that it was actually a condition and it got to the point that I was suffering from sleep deprivation and not even knowing it, just wondering why I couldn't stay awake and being alarmed because I would find myself dozing off while driving quite often.

While I'm glad you're sleeping better, I've got to say that there's something vaguely unsettling about "A Resource For People With Condition x" websites run by pharmaceutical companies, particularly ones that they drive traffic to using TV adverts. (Despite the copyright line at the bottom of the page, I'd never have noticed it was run by a pharmaceutical company if the graphic design hadn't been implausibly stylish for a sufferer-run support group.)

I didn't notice that myself and the first time I visited the site, I never saw any mention of medication for it, just ways to help cope with it. I found out from my doctor that there was medication and it's not the one I found mentioned on the website after digging around for it that I am on.

My mum had problems and was recommended mineral water with quinine, and she said that it worked. I don't know if she still uses it or has problems, I'll ask and see.

I'm not sure if you can get quinine over here in the states, at least not without a prescription. I know someone who is English and when she first came here the doctors had never heard of the problem and thought she was a quack but they have now. It sounds like kind of a funny problem to have but spending hours a day driving has been driving me up the wall. Besides the dozing off problem there are days I feel like screaming or crawling out of the van windows because of the need to move. I found that driving with one hand and massaging a leg at a time helps but gets to be a pain, literally. Today I have energy and have felt great and didn't have the need take a three to four hour nap

I just wanted to tell my story in case someone else may have the problem and not realize it.

Drink lots and lots of Gin & Tonic then (Tonic water contains quinine. Not very much however)

Tonic water, that was it. That post was quite late last night!

I've just asked my mum - my gran takes quinine sulphate for a burning legs problem and gave my mum some tablets which she takes if she has a problem.

I don't have restless legs, but I found it interesting to learn about another common sleep disorder- sleep paralysis.
I didn't know it was so common- or that it was undergoing study.
I just knew it was not a fun experience, although recently I've managed to turn it toward a more favorable light- kind of like lucid dreaming.

It's like there's a glitch in the OS- like when Windows hangs on shut-down.

Whoa, you glow when you dream?
