I'm going to be seeing as much of the Isles as possible before and after the empeg meet. Can anyone suggest when the tourist spots are less full but the summer fun is in full swing? Also, suggestions of what to see would be great. Off the top of my head, all I can think to see and do are: Stonehenge The Adventure Centre rock climbing superstructure in Scottland One or (preferably) more superstar DJ club nights at the UK's hottest venues ... and a visit to my castle, if it hasn't already been stolen (but that's a LONG story)

If this year was anything to go by, June was lovely, the schools are still in at that point and certainly in Manchester it was probably the best weather we'd had all year.
Make sure you put Manchester on the list of places to visit. Sadly the Hacienda is no longer in existance but you could always look at the block of flats they built on the site.

If you're going past Leeds then the Toyota Ice Wall at XScape might be worth a go. Looks like it's £40/hr for an hour's climbing with tuition, £30/hr for just a belayer. Gareth

Scottish Highlands. Go for at least a week, go get lost, and have fun.
Some very amazing things to see there. Tempting to try and make the meet myself in 06, and to do a motorcycle trip around that area. I was in the highlands in 98 on a school trip, and had an amazing time.
If only airfare in Juny wasn't so costly.

It really is nearly twice as much as during the winter. For me, it's about $300 through March, $400 through May, and $500 through August.

Heh. And I was expecting that to be a link to this...
If you're into clubbing or dance music, and you're in Manchester, you should go to Piccadilly Records on Oldham Street, either to actually buy music (IME it's always worth buying their "We recommend" CDs, even if it's someone you've never heard of, or withal especially if it's someone you've never heard of) or just to gawp at the way all the music is divided up into genres you've never heard of. The "eclectic music shop" district of London is Berwick Street, not far from Oxford Street, but while it's worth a browse there's no one shop as good as Piccadilly IMO.

Awesome recommendations, thanks all. Scottland is definitely on my list (even though I was told to feel nervous while last there in 1993... as a kid). Maybe even some Scottish country dancing after one too many sips of fine local Scotch. That would make my decade (since I haven't Scottish country danced in this one).
Any recommendations for Ireland and Wales? Thanks again!

I'll do the ride with you if I can afford it. I've wanted to make a meet since the beginning. Hopefully 06 is my year...

May I suggest the Crib Goch route up Mt. Snowdon? It's not for the faint of heart though!

Speaking of which, isn't there a bridge somewhere that is the very first ever built of iron. Kind of neat, cause it was built like a timber frame bridge except in iron.

If you give us a shout when you are thinking of coming to the adventure centre, I'll try and get a few of my climbing friends together.
Due to me not having Rob S's organisational skills I never managed to pull together a scottish meet, but maybe we could see about a mini-meet kinda thing.

That may well be the one, but for some reason the mental image I had, was of something smaller where the beams actually looked like timbers.
