Had a bit of an accident and have melted a couple of keys on my Macbook Pro..... I swear this thing is cursed. I need to get a new ~ key, a ctrl key and an alt key (total of 3 keys).

Powerbook medics have got them for sale at $8.95 apiece, the only problem is they want $30-odd for postage to the UK.

The keys can be bought from here:

http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Powerbook-Keys-MacBook-Pro---Individual-Key-Keycap-p-16753.html

I'll cover all costs obviously....

Ok, lets get this straight from the start

You can't put up a post like that without exact details of how you manage to melt keys on any laptop let alone a brand fire Macbook Pro

Details and pictures please

Cheers

Cris.

It was a late night in Camden, and I was very drunk.... To avoid incriminating myself I'm not willing to say any more.

Are they UK-specific keys or the same as a US keyset? If they're non-specific, I can probably get you some for free when I'm back from China - might be a couple of weeks before I have them in my hands though (my PB team contact is also in china!)

I guess you might be wanting them more urgently than that though....

FireFox is buying them on my behalf (so thanks to him)...... There is a difference between the Euro and US keyboards, but it's all around the enter key where it appears to be different.

You could however, source me a cover release button as mine has tarnished badly and I can't find that anywhere.

Did I fail to mention that I received these and mailed them out a few days ago? Saturday 2/24/07 I think. Let me know if you don't see them soon.

They arrived today! Just got to work up the courage to prise the existing ones off!

Many thanks!

Must be a tutorial online somewhere about how to pry those off. Ah, if only every community had a Tony.

I just bit the bullet and yanked them off in the end, I got three of the little frame things that fit underneath so I wasn't too worried about breaking anything.

While I'm on the subject of bottom burstingly delicate operations, I just upgraded the memory in an Intel Mac Mini tonight. It's quite a tense moment when you're trying to crack the case open with what amounts to a sharpened wallpaper scraper!

Oh, it wasn't that bad, I had to tear deep into my mini to install the wireless and bluetooth module, getting into it was easy, taking the drives off and putting them back on right wasn't exactly painless.

Assuming the problems go away (Final Cut thrashing away to disk on big projects and eventually crashing) then I've got another 10 of the buggers to do.
