Hi all!
I have a question regarding FireFox's ability to fill out web forms and I thought I'd give the great oracle a shot!

In my travels across the internet I fill out many different fields with 'private information'. This isn't just various passwords, but also usernames, email, address, search keywords, etc.
Firefox remembers which page or field needs which info and that info is then presented in a drop-down menu beneath the field. I have to type the first couple of characters before the option is presented, however.

Anyway, it seems that FireFox does not give me the option to edit this information that it is collecting.
I only have the option to clear *all* saved form data.
I rely on the form filling option heavily and I don't want to delete *all* of the data, only some of it!

Where is this data held and how can I edit it as I like?

It is all inside formhistory.dat in your Firefox profile directory. The problem is that it uses a incredibly bizarre and broken format to store it all in called "Mork" which was hacked together by some Netscape engineer years ago.

Wow.
Wow.
That is sad!

So much for my hopes of a simple edit.
Thanks, tman!

In the mechanical engineering world this would be known as a bastard screw.

In the IE version of this feature, you can use the down arrow key until the selection you want to delete is highlighted, then just hit the delete key. Does something similar work for Firefox?

Oddly enough, nobody has put in a feature which lets you view the saved form information. You can view saved log in stuff like usernames and passwords however. There was an addon which did this but it doesn't work for Firefox 2.0

HA!! YES!!
I expected some combination of right-click would be required, but just highlighting and hitting the delete key as you said does the trick!
Woohooo!!

Oddly enough, I tried it on my computer after posting that, and it doesn't work for me. Either there's something different about the Mac version, or it doesn't like my delete key (I tried both delete and fn-delete).

Oh well, I rarely use Firefox anyway. Now, if you could show me how to edit the saved form data in Safari...

Ah- I tried the trick while at home (FF2.0) and it worked, but here at work (FF1.5) it does not.
Upgraded to 2.0 and it now works for me! (Win2k in both places)

My main complaint is that the file gets polluted with improper info. I also see that my google searches end up in my craigslist searches. Now I can easily erase the input I don't want in the system.
