I know there was a post on this but can't find anything on it now. Someone posted they printed their own color faceplates on clear film. Does anyone remember this or can tell me where the post might be? I remember seeing even a picture of a few. Thanks

That was me!! My original post is here. I've been playing around with it a bit lately and I've put up the latest CorelDraw V5.0 file here.
Have fun !!!
ps If you need the file in some other format let me know and I'll see what I can do.
pps You'll also find that photo you mentioned later in the same thread.

Thanks much I tried display ,colors, etc. on a search & found nothing. I don't have Corel Draw but PSP 3 I have converted it, the instructions apparently were cut off in mid sentence. I see "Don't forget you don't have to stick with the.........." and there it ends.
BTW-What's OHP film?

Here's what I see, if there's more to it then I guess PSP conversion didn't work well. Thank You.

No matter what you do, if you open it in PSP3, there's no way that it's going to print out at the correct size. That's a raster conversion.

If you really intend to print and use this, you're going to have to open the file in the correct version of Corel.

Well you've got most of it but as Tony says PSP has had to convert it to raster format. You really need to read it into another vector based graphics program to use it properly. You would have real difficulty getting it to print out the correct size otherwise. Also the banding you see isn't present in the original file. I saved it as version 5.0 to increase the chance of people being able to read it, I'm actually using version 10. Are you able to read any vector based file formats? If you can let me know I'll try to convert it.

BTW the full text reads: "To be printed on OHP film
Cut out the outline & holes with a scalpel. Use one of each of the two types of screen back - to - back (i.e. printed sides together). This gives better colour saturation than one screen on it’s own and avoids any possibility of the Gelatin getting stuck to the VFD. Use the best possible print quality settings to ensure you get a good looking display. Don’t forget you don’t have to stick with the colours I’ve shown here - experiment to get the colour(s) you like or that match your dash."

Oh... and OHP is Over-Head Projector

OK I guess a little tutoring will be required, what progs are vector based, I don't have much in the way of pic-soft but Adobe Photo & an old program called Vellum Drawing Board.

Let me do a bit of investigating then I'll get back to you about which vector based products are available (free of course!!). This may take a bit of time as I think I'll have to go to bed soon. I start work @ 07:30 in the mornings and it's 12:43 now. Still nothing new there

The programs that work with vectors that will help you in this project are:

- Adobe Illustrator
- Macromedia Freehand
- Corel Draw

And I don't even know if the first two will even open a CDR file.

Thanks Tony, I'm not very familiar with the other vector based products but do of course know of their existence. I've actually just tried exporting as Adobe Illustrator 4.0 but It doesn't seem to preserve the blends between objects. This isn't a major problem of course - it just means a bit more work for the end user to get it looking OK (as long as they can read AI files in the first place that is).

Thanks for the quick (no-lightning) answers guys, I'm D/L Corel 10, 30 day trial now & will see what happens. I'll post a pic when I get it done. Of course I'll have to get the OHP first. Get some sleep beaker, didn't mean to make it an all nighter.
BTW-how's the orange & yellow look on yours?

Ah, good so you should be able to read the file (& edit it of course) OK. The Orange & Yellow look (IMHO) quite good but tend to get washed out first on a bright day. The Orange & Yellow are actually part of a multicolour screen which goes from Blue through Purple, Magenta, Orange & Yellow. I find single colour screens a bit boring since I've been playing with these screens but that's just my opinion. Some people might think it's OTT but I like it .

Let me know how you get on.

ps. At the risk of teaching my Granny to suck eggs, do make sure you get OHP film for Inkjet printers (that is if you're using Inkjet of course) otherwise the ink has nothing to soak into and you'll end up with a horrible mess which never dries.

Happy customising!!!
