I'm using JEmplode with my Mac and empeg mk2. It worked fine previously, but since moving to my new Mac it's stalling on 'downloading playlist'. It selects the empeg fine, and it skips through the first couple of 'download...' (database?) sections ok but it hangs on downloading playlist forever. I've tried riding it out but it really stalls (nothing for over half an hour...).

It's doing this on my desktop now too (which I haven't changed anything on, and which worked fine before) so I'm thinking maybe it's the empeg itself. It's driving me nuts.

Is there a chance that I messed something up by unplugging during one of these so-called downloads? (nothing was actually being downloaded - no noise from the empeg or movement on theJEmplode screen)

If I can't sort this out then the empeg is basically no more than an overpriced paperweight. I think it's about time empeg/Rio/whoever they are invested a bit of effort into a non-Windows software solution - make it compatible with iTunes or something. We'll all be using Macs in 10 years anyway, so why not get a head start... ; )

What OS version are you using? Have you got an up-to-date version of the JRE on the machine?

And why aren't you coming to the empeg meet?

This sounds like you might have a corrupt player database (does the player take a long time to start up, and display "Rebuilding music database..." on the screen at startup time?) that is in a state that JEmplode can't deal with. Are there any console messages from JEmplode?

I have had jempeg leave my empeg's database in a nasty state once or twice. A sync with the regular emplode has always fixed it for me, if you can find a PC to borrow for a few minutes.

No, the player doesn't say anything and there are no console messages. The empeg still play fine when hooked up to my stereo - surely this wouldn't be the case if the playlist was screwed up?...

I can't find any 'JRE' when I search - but I haven't changed any settings since the days when it all used to work. Where would I download JRE?

In Mac OS the JRE (Java Runtime Engine) is called MRJ (Mac OS Runtime for Java). Don't know if it is installed as standard - you might have to download it from Apple:

Not necessarily. If database it hosed, the player itself will rebuild it from playlists and tag files at startup; it's only that player cannot write the database to disk - that is reserved for emplode/emptool/jemplode. To check this, reboot the player (cycle its power), and see whether there is a message (on empeg screen, not serial port) 'rebuilding database' or something to this effect for several minutes after the boot sequence finishes and before the music starts.
