I wonder if fortune cookie writers ever gear their fortunes to that premise.

I think my definition of "Soon" is now going to be a liberal one.

A few years ago a bunch of folks from our group went to lunch and one of the fortune cookies said "You will soon be showered with good fortune". That night, the water main above our room broke (second time in two years) and flooded the room with an estimated 20,000 gallons of water.

That was good fortune. Be thankful it wasn't the sewage drain. wink

Though I suppose the volume of water might negate the good fortune of its cleanliness.

My aunt once got a fortune that was blank. I guess it is an interesting psychological experiment on what one's interpretation of that is.

I guess it's sort of like the glass being half-full or half-empty. Does the blank fortune mean you have no fortune, or any fortune?

I my mother's case the glass is half-empty, it has dropped to the floor and smashed, it was someone else's glass that she had borrowed, someone else's child has trodden in the broken glass and is now bleeding over the white carpet, the carpet is some else's and she will feel compelled to insist on paying to replace the ruined glass and carpet...

Carpet spot removers (eg. Wine Away) can tidy up amazingly nasty-looking stains..
