Has anyone tried connecting a Playstation 3 to a computer monitor with a HDMI to DVI converter ? My monitor is far too old to support HDCP but I don't know if I need it or not for playing a game.

Your monitor needs to support HDCP or you need to get a box that strips off HDCP from the signal. No HDCP = No picture.

If I remember right, retail PS3s require HDCP when using the HDMI connector, even on the XMB and boot screens. Developer kits have a way of turning this off, but don't support any kind of movie playback.

I think HDCP was embedded at such a deep layer to try and prevent BluRay movie piracy, due to the native Linux support and other slightly open aspects of the system.
