This is a totally trivial question that I suspect has a non-trivial (if any) answer.

Is it possible to edit individual cookies on my computer?

The specific thing I would do is delete just one cookie, I don't want the others to go away. There is a website I log onto that requires a user name, and a drop-down box lets me select the appropriate name. I mis-typed the login one time, so now there are two names in the drop down box and I would like just the one to be there.

This is hardly a calamitous problem, but I am curious about how cookies work and if the user has any options with them other than to globally delete them.

What browser are you using ? In Firefox under tools > options > privacy you can delete them individually.

Hmmm... so you can!

However, I don't see how to identify the one I want to get rid of.

I guess it can't do any real harm (can it?) if I just make my best guess and delete them one at a time until I get the results I want. All I'd have to do is re-enter the information for cookies I deleted that I didn't really want to go away...

Yeah some of mine have easy to identify names like empegbbs.com and some are more cryptic.

Are you sure it's a cookie thing and not Firefox's autocomplete mechanism? I'm not aware of a way to edit those, but before you go deleting all of your cookies, it's worth looking into.

If it's auto-complete, you can scroll down the list till the erroneous entry is lit and hit the delete key. That should do it.

Doh!

That was it. Leave it to me to try and make things complicated.

Thanks!

Can't take credit, someone else here pointed it out before.
