Hey folks,

I'm running the 2b7 dev. image on my 20+30 empeg and I've noticed that every now and then (for the last week or so) the drive light stays on and the damn thing just stops. I can still get to the menu and navigate etc, but it's as if I've unfortunately come across a not-so-easily fixed disk problem. Is there a way to force a fsck to root out any problems ? I don't mind returning it if I really have to, but I'm currently using it at the centre of my home stereo so I'll be back to the Mac with those teeny speakers for my music, which I really don't want.

Any ideas ?

Rich.

Don't panic, could just be a cable problem. Check here.

When you say "center of your home stereo", you're not putting it on top of something hot, are you? Say, setting it on top of your main stereo amplifier? That's what killed my Mk1's hard disk.

I don't suppose dropping it three feet onto your asphalt driveway and breaking the corner of the fascia off did it a lot of good, either...

Okay, I admit, I'm not certain which of those things killed the hard disk. But I think it more likely that operating in the excessive heat is what got it since the heads were retracted at the time of the drop.
