I just bought a 2001 Honda CRV (no flames about the wimpy horsepower, please and the remote keyless entry is somehow tied to the stock head unit. Because of this, I do not want to remove the stock head unit. I want to put install my empeg in the empty DIN below the head unit (I think it's full DIN size) and hook the empeg to the head unit.

Is there a CD changer to RCA jack adapter out there that I can use to connect my empeg to the head unit?

Are you absolutely certain that the keyless entry is tied to the head unit? I've never heard of that on Hondas.

Actually, I'm not. I've just found some posts on Usenet from people who say that they are. It's hard to find information on these Head units (well...I've only been doing Google and usenet searches for 10 minutes so far).

I have found a site that sells an adapter that might work: http://peripheralelectronics.com/

The peripheral adaptor may require you hook up a cd-changer to utilize the rca ins. If you don't mind buying a cd-changer also then it will probably work.

Good luck, let us know what you find. Make sure to read through the installation section of the FAQ.

And I won't flame you about the CRV's wimpy horsepower, I'll just agree with you. Because my wife owns one of those wimpy little things.

You would be amazed what a CRV block can do when mated with a b16A head(off a civic Si). 2 liters of DOHC madness

I just finished talking to a guy at one of these internet sites that sells cd changer interfaces and a guy from a local install shop. They both confirmed what you are saying--I can get auxiliary inputs if I add a cd changer. I don't understand why this is the case. Oh well, I guess I'll have to find out about replacing the head unit.

Go to www.geocities.com/civicwagon/crv and you can find my CR-V page. On it I have pics of my empeg installed alongside a Pioneer deck in my 2000 CR-V.

The keyless gear has nothing to do with the factory stereo, trust me.

When I get the money and another tuner module I am pulling the Pioneer and just keeping the empeg. The empeg looks like it is made for the dash of the CR-V.

Any questions on the empeg/CR-V feel free to ask, I know a lot about both... when I find something I like I usually go mad for a while learning everything I can, fortunately for me, the CR-V takes a little less of my time then reading this BBS alone does.

Enjoy!

(Oh, and if you get a geocities error message then I have probably been empeg.comms.netted (similar to slashdotted), geocities limits the amount of transfers per month on free sites... sigh)

I assume the reason they require a changer is that their interface simply converts the cd-changers proprietary code into that of the car's headunits and visa-versa. So you require the cd-changer to provide these proprietary codes. Icould be wrong though.

Cool site. Just a few questions for you:

Is the empeg hooked to the aux input for your Pioneer head unit? or vice versa?

Did you have to buy any trim for the housing unit?

How'd you figure out how to remove the stock head unit? Did you have Crutchfield "guides"?

Did you have to cut any wires or did the adapter for the stock head unit work with your empeg or Pioneer head unit?

Mdinh, most of those questions you just asked are generic-stereo-install questions, and are unrelated to the empeg player. Try starting here for more information.

I currently have the empeg running through a cassette adapter into the Pioneer but I will be hacking my IP-Bus CD-Changer cable when it gets a little warmer out to run my empeg audio outs in through my Pioneer's CD audio inputs. See this thread for more info... http://empeg.comms.net/php/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=empeg_tech&Number=57956&page=&view=&sb=&o=

I didn't have to buy anything to make it fit, however in order to make the Pioneer look good I used Tony Fabris' idea to make a trim piece... can't seem to locate the info here now but there are pics of it in his install gallery on riocar.org.

I found all the necessary info at installdr.com on how to dismantle the CR-V. They have a really nice PDF done up there of the CR-V.

I had to cut some wires because I was too anxious to wait for the ISO adapter to arrive from empeg. I tapped into the power, illumination and ignition wires (not sure if there's anything else off the top of my head). I had to cut the empeg harness near where the iso connector is (I didn't hack it off, I made sure it could be repaired later if I wished). If I had the ISO connector from empeg which plugs into the empeg harness then I wouldn't have had to cut anything.

Good luck!
