This post goes hand in hand with the post below...can anyone point me to a web server that is compatable with WinXP home edition?...I was going to use Apache but to run ASP scripts, I require additional pricy software. Because this webcasting is just a hobby of sorts, I don't wish to start laying out $$$$...thanks for you help..

Hello All

I have been broadcasting on SHOUTcast for a few weeks now. To use SHOUTcast, I am forced to use winamp as my broadcast souce. I have found that the winamp playlist shuffle code is really weak and I am having difficulty manually creating a well-rounded playlist for my 500 song list...Is anyone aware of a decent playlist (.m3u) randomizer or automated radio station package that is either shareware or freeware? I have been searching for a long time now without much luck...

Footnote: I think shoutcASP would have been my best bet however WinXP home edition does not support IIS or personal web server which is required to run the shoutcASP scripts...

John

There is a free ASP solution for Apache that claims to run under Win32: Apache-ASP.

Hey Bitt

Thanks for your info, I was actually on that site yesterday and it was this statement that scared me away:

"The installation process for Apache::ASP is geared towards those with experience with perl, Apache, and unix systems. For those without this experience, please understand that the learning curve can be significant."

This ain't me so I guess I will ether have to get crackin' and learn this stuff or look elsewhere

Fair enough. I understand your concern. That being said, dig in and learn!

Better yet, dig some old computer out of your closet that you thought was obsolete, install some sort of Unix on it, and go to town. Watch it be ten times faster than your XP machine.

There's a good program called ShufflePlay that has a good shuffle routine for winamp playlists, it's available at www.pinoyware.com

Xitami is a freeware webserver for Win32. I used it briefly and it seemed to be pretty robust for freeware. I still use it to host a site when the Linux server is down for maintenance. There is a FAQ entry on using ASP with it.

Thanks for your info guys, I'll dig into these sites and see what magic I can come up with. For now it's gonna be good ole' Winamp shuffle for my playlist (the best kind of shuffle...NOT!!!)
