Voice prompts, including a self-recorded audio tag for your own presets (and all the "factory" voice prompts being in a replaceable/updateable playlist, so you can rerecord the prompts yourself) are on the to-do list, you'll be glad to know

Wound up in a different product. Some of it can probably apply to the car player in future.

Is this an existing product, or a future one?

Do all these NDAs frustrate you guys? (Here I'm talking to the Sonic Blue people, not the general populace.)

If I couldn't tell people anything about any cool stuff I was working on, it would drive me bonkers! Especially when release dates get pushed out (as they often do, in my experience).

Richard.

I don't know of any commercial development organisation that doesn't have masses of NDA's covering things they are developing, using for development, selling, buying, or glanced at on their way to the office one morning.

Even before we became part of SB we had dozens of NDA's in place.

It frustrates me to no end. There's all kinds of cool things I'd love to tell you guys about, but I'm not allowed. So, you'll just have to wait.

It seems that the mortality rate of projects covered by NDA's is really high.

Do the NDA's ever expire, or just get rolled over to new clients/projects?

Ok, I understand all the fuss about NDA but MY concern is that I seem to have missed the ship so to speak with the empeg/rio car thing, SB has stopped producing them and getting one on ebay is getting to be dicey and horrendously expensive. I want one of these things, but can you tell me if there will be something as good or better on the horizon? Or should I pay out the wazoo for one on ebay?

Consensus of opinion around here is no.

There may be machines in the next few years that can store MP3s on a hard drive and play them in your car, but it is unlikely that you will have the ability to "hack" the unit the way we can do with the empeg, and it is unlikely that the user interface will be as flexible or as powerful.

The only ones currently on the market right now are nowhere near as good as the empeg, and cost considerably more than any empeg for sale today on ebay.
