What kind of rechargable batteries does the SP250 normally come with? My christmas gift to my sister was one of these units, and it came without the batteries, nor one of the headphones. Sonicblue has been absolutly worthless for resolving the situation (no big suprise there, *sigh), and since she tore open the packaging (pretty much mandatory to get it out) the store would not accept it as an exchange.

So, my only hope is to buy a set of batteries for her. I tried NiMH batteries, and they did not charge in the unit like they are supposed to.

I'll have to check on the answer, but I would have thought the the retailer would have responsibility to exchange that unit. It isn't possible to open the packaging for those things without cutting it!

It's wierd that stuff was missing - and what do you mean by "one" of the headphones?

By what I remember, it was supposed to include two pairs of headphones. Lets see, these:

and these:

The only ones in the package were the headphones. The earphones were nowhere to be found.

And thanks for looking into it. It's been on the back of my mind for a while, after repeated e-mails and phone calls.

I don't know the exact details, but I am under the impression that you need to cut about 1/8th of an inch of the label off of the sides of the batteries for them to work properly.

A friend of mine has done it. If no one else knows the procedure, I'll ask him when I talk to him in a couple of days.

I looked at mine (I just bought one about a week ago for my upcoming trip). They are labeled as Nickel Metal Hydride 1.2 V (rechargable of course).

Model hr-3u, though I am sure that is no help.

Hey ninti, do the batteries look like they have a little more bare metal exposed than your regular battery at one end?

Yeah, the negative end has about 1/8 inch exposed on the sides. In fact, strangely, the entire outside side of the battery is connected to negative, but covered in plastic over most of it.

I doubt it makes a difference though, the terminal in the player won't touch the side at all.
