Here's a chance for many of you to reminisce about some TV programs of years past. There's this song by one of my favorite bands and I need some help with a few of the lyrics. The song is "TV Dream" by The Young Fresh Fellows. I highly recommend the album it's on, "The Men Who Loved Music." Anyway, if you know what the lyrics in bold are about I'd appreciate a little background. I've been listening to this song for years and still don't know what it all means

"TV Dream" by The Young Fresh Fellows

One minute you and Barney Fife are best friends
Next minute you're on Sea Hunt with a case of the bends
The Jetsons got you taking care of their dog
You're walking into Barnabas out in the fog

You say you want to get out, you want to get out
But that's not as easy as it seems
You got to stick around for this TV dream

You're enjoying martinis with Honey West
You close your eyes for a second and she becomes Jonny Quest
For some reason you killed Bugsy and Dick Tracy too
Perry Mason out and out refuses to help you

You say you want to get out, you want to get out
But you're going up against the A Team
You better make the most out of this TV dream

You think you're getting a birds-eye view of Jeannie's navel
Turns out you're flirting with Flicka out there in the stable
Sgt. Friday finds out and reads you your rights
Says take care of Katie's triplets for a thousand and one nights

You say you want to get out, you want to get out
But Farrah's got you smothered in cream
Well there's no escape from this TV dream

Now you and Napoleon Solo have just thrown up
From all the cute little black kids talking like grown-ups

Art Fleming won't even let you question the answers
Until you've tried out for the Solid Gold dancers

You say you want to get out, you want to get out
But it doesn't even help if you scream
It's not as real as this TV dream
