I dont really think that framerates or graphics is really what makes a game. Sure, it is nice to have high res 3d rendered stuff, but it does not make the game more enjoyable or playable. For example, there are many racing games that are more realistic than Mario Kart, but very few are as fun. Even Mario Golf or Mario Tennis are much more fun to play than their realistic equivalents in my opinion. Gameplay is more important than graphics, and that is why Nintendo has been able to do so well in the console market. As far as I could tell, the only reason that the Sony Playstation did so well is because of the mod chip.
