I agree with Roger though I don't like the main index page. The "new" should be next to the number of posts.
It's something that was changed in a recent release of the wwwthreads software, and PaulH hasn't been able to find a template that allows it to be edited. YET.
If anyone wants to poke around the support BBS at the wwwthreads site and see if anyone there has already posted instructions on how to change the formatting of the main index, let us know if you find anything.
Did it really need an upgrade. -> If it isn't broken, why fix it?
That's my motto, too, but in this case there are some very distinct advantages to this new version:
1) When you go back in and re-edit a message, it no longer mangles URL links in the process. This is vital for me and Di maintaining the FAQ board. It just made our jobs about a thousand times easier.
2) When you want to put a URL link in your own messages, there's a new tag style which allows you to use regular html-style link text instead of forcing you to use the link itself. In the past, you had to put (url)http://something(/url) as your link. Now you can do it like this: (url=http://something)Click here(/url). You could always do this in the past if you wanted to use HTML to get the job done, but now it's supported in the BBS markup tag language. (This is what allowed #1, above, to start working.)
3) You can now put polls direclty into your own messages. I'm not sure whether PaulH has enabled this feature for all users or just for moderators. I'll give it a try here:
4) There were also other minor bug fixes that were important.
5) Finally, remember that a few months back, a bunch of us BBS'ers chipped in to pay for a software upgrade of the BBS. (Okay, we had a little help from PayPal's promotional deals.) One of the reasons for this upgrade was so that we could do things like patch the BBS when new versions came out.
