I don't know if this counts as cheating, but I noticed that when I moved the mouse over the top of the 'monitor', a little I-bar appeared, suggesting text. So I clicked and dragged to highlight the text, anc copy&pasted into a text editor. The word 'DWARF' appeared, I tapped it onto the keyboard, and got through to the next room...
