I guess I was too optimistic. It still behaves like before.
Today I wantewd to check if there are some dry solder joints or such and I found a "bridge" between 2 of the "legs" of the "smsc" chip near the ethernet connector; the bridge is on the ethernet connector side too, for orientation. I guess thic chip is for the ethernet connection, so maybe it doesn't affect the player.
The pic is small, but I hope it's understandable; my question is: is this correct or could this be the cause for at least some problems I'm having?
EDIT: I found this on 2 other chips, the one with the "crystal" logo and the other is a smaller one; just near the intel StrongARM, labeled P98AB LVX4245 (2 of them side by side)
