I read another day an article about a journalist breaking the news of Arafat's death to Bush in the middle of a press conference. Dubya's response was actually quite coherent:

My first reaction is God bless his soul. And my second reaction is that we will continue to work for a free Palestinian state that's at peace with Israel.

(Someone - Jim, I think - has already commented on the 'continuation' part, but still)

So, does that mean that Dubya only plays moron? If so, he deserves an Oscar, Emmy and all Golden Flora-and-fauna.

What befuddles me is that many Israelis (among others) think that Arafat's death (or permanent incapacitation - removal from the political scene, anyway) is somehow a good thing for the region. Unless the logic is 'the worse - the better'.
