Of course, it is beneficial to the artists concerned, as interesting lyrics will often prompt somebody to buy a CD; nobody buys records to read the lyrics. The only guys perhaps marginally harmed are tablature or score publishers, who, as usual, hide behind fake concern for artist's interest. Why are artists tolerating this? They should start treating major labels as what they are: not very good marketing/PR companies.
