Quote: Canon's approach is to just release a few hundred models per year and just beat everyone with confusion.
This seems to be Nikon's new approach as well. Just to muddy the waters further, three new camera (the L2, L3, and L4, I believe) have backwards numbering, i.e., the L2 is better than the L3. It's one thing if all your products are numbered that way (as Nakamichi tape decks were once labelled), but since most Nikon products are numbered normally, this move seems specially intended by Nikon to outdo Canon on market confusion.
Quote: And I'm still keeping my fingers crossed Nikon does something new with the D200 later this year
The only major "upgrade" I'd really like to see for the D200 is longer battery life. The great big screen, in particular, causes significant power drain (you can double your battery life by turning it off). Also, presumably they've already addressed this whole "banding" issue, but you can imagine that analog sensor noise issues will only improve over time as they ramp up on the manufacturing volume. Of course, Nikon is welcome to introduce more lenses. Can't get enough of those.
