I bought a cheap Dell 17" a month or two ago, the 1707FP. It is definitely crisp, but it sucks for color work. The problem is that its screen is no of uniform brightness from top to bottom. In fact there's an obvious gradient. So if you put two identical images one above the other, the one at the bottom will always look brighter (regardless of viewing angle, height adjustments, etc..)

I chalked it up to getting what I paid for - and I can't be bothered to return it. When I get a larger display, likely a 24" widescreen, there's no way I'll settle for this type of issue (or any issues including dead pixels for that matter).
