Quote: than for beating his child?
No, beating a child is much worse because their level of intelligence is greater. But it is sad to see an animal hurt for this reason: When being abused, the animal is worse off than a human because it has less of a clue what's going, is most likely grossly outmatched for size and strength, and is, if capable of feeling the emotion, probably more terrified.
I've always wanted to see punishment for animal abuse fit the crime: Put the perp in the position of the animal. - So someone chains their dog to a stake for its entire life, trapped to a dirt circle with its own feces, being fed only when the owner feels like it. Let the owner try living chained out in the sun, rain and wind, demoralized by the stench of their own filth, and bored out of their minds.
- So someone hosts cock fighting or dog fighting? Put them in a cement cage, starved and burnt with coals to fire them up, with another man and two knives... again and again and again.
- Oh, and one I've recently heard. The guy who trains fight dogs by dangling a small dog by its one hind leg as attack bait. See how he likes it, but to maintain a realistic scale, hang him from a tree and let him be hit by guys on ATVs with baseball bats.
Point is, the animals are clueless about why these things are happening to them, powerless to do much about it, and maybe terrified by their own vulnerability. I mean, come on, animal abusers should pick on someone your own size. Bet they wouldn't last.
Man, I should have saved that dog. I could have found a home for it (like my family has found homes for many unwanted dogs) in no time. Birds are very hard to find help for, I know from experience, so hopefully this one flew away.
