I had a very similar problem on a Logitech mouse when I wore the left click button clean out. I had just used it so much that the contacts had worn down I guess. A new mouse fixed the problem. I'm guessing this is not your problem since a second mouse isn't working though. If both mice are well worn, it could be an issue though.
