I took the unit apart. I checked for dry joints (thanks AndrewT) by using a multi-meter and testing connectivity from the tip of the solder to the top of the pin. All pins checked out.

I then used a small mallet and beat the connectors on the ide cable together to make sure the connectors were making good contact with the wire. Then I reseated everything, obviously since I had to pull the cable to beat on it.

After putting it back together, I ran the fsck again and it came back with a lot of bad blocks. The drive is probably going bad as well, but it looks like the reseating everything fixed the irq issue, at least for now. I haven't had time to add songs or do any write tests. The fsck didn't finish last night so I had to put the player back together this morning so I could have music on the way to work.
