A2DP is inherently laggy. Unless they want to watch TV with out-of-sync audio, I'd avoid A2DP for this problem.

The Sennheiser headphones that the guys at Headroom recommend allow multiple headphones per transmitter. Not really hard to do, since most of the technologies (Bluetooth notably excepted) are going to be broadcast based.
