What about those neon(ish) wires sometimes used by case modders. They are sufficiently bright to light up a standard keyboard, should do for the empeg. You can bend them like you wish (being little more then a thin wire in thickness), cut them how you wish. Only problem would be powersupply, but if memory serves they run on 12 v, something that is extremely hard to find in a car.
