I'm far from a professional developer, but maybe instead of raw numbers you could look at an increase in numbers. And then assign "blame" for those numbers. And then put up a leaderboard.

Maybe turning it into a little competition would help. I'm thinking more of bragging rights, though, than Cadillacs and steak knives.
