I've occasionally seen this with networked printers as well; my wife's Windows 7 laptop mysteriously had two copies of our Brother 2250DN listed, and -- of course -- it wanted to print to the wrong one. Might have something to do with the fact that I changed my network from 10.x.y.z to 192.168.x.y though...

My clients often wonder why I ask them for their router's admin login when they want me to set up their printer. I don't install network printers unless I can give them a static IP.

And yeah, there are TONS of annoying things about printers and Windows, but it's really easy to work out IP issues.
