The only car stereo I've never had nicked was my first one, and guess what, it was a pull out. These days, the ba***rds will nick the rear half of it, even if you've removed the front panel bit.

This is exactly my experience. I still have my full-pull-out CD player from many years ago, but the empeg replaced a faceplate-security unit that got stolen.
