They do seem to have gone soft, atleast in their videos and new songs, I havent seen them live so I can't contest to that. I beleive they have fallen into the Eric Clapton syndrome:

finally get clean of heroin and lose the impact of the music
before anyone gets mad at that comment, Im not saying they are not still great artists, but look at both before and after and you tell me that their music didnt get softer
