I do this all the time, and I use:

• The D-Link USB Radio
• Radiator (which frankly pisses all over D-Link's laughable attempt at a radio controller program)
  

The radio is FM-only - basically because AM works on similar bands to the resonant frequency of computer motherboards and there's a lot of interference (see also why the empeg-car doesn't have an inbuilt tuner). You can get cards that do both, but they're more expensive.
