JTrack 3D.

The ring of geo-synch birds looks like some kind of defense perimeter.

Make sure to turn on Ground Track and look at the interesting tracks of some of them. Also zoom out and locate Chandra, then look it up in Google and find out why it's got such a large orbit.

Some defense perimeter. The Space Defense Force planners seem to think attacks will only come in from one plane.

Interesting. It seems odd that out of all the ones marked US Defense, Air Force, Navy and Military, only one has a low earth orbit. And only one does a close pass in a larger loop. Perhaps the LOE spy satellites got left off.

And the categories seem kinda off sometimes. For instance; KO-23 listed under "United States". Description says it is South Korean, launched from French Guiana, and funded by the University of Surray/United Kingdom.

How exactly is that a US Satellite?

How did you get that description in the applet? Or did you look that up elsewhere?

Under Satellite | Select highlight a specific satellite, then hit the button at the lower left of the box that says "Sat. Info.".
The info is shown in the browser window.

Another interesting thing is the Options. Change the Update Rate to 1/4 and the Timing to x100 (x1000 is a little too fast).

[edit] Zooming way out is good to get a full view. Chandra is definately the largest orbit shown, with XMM second. Strangely, XMM is listed under 'Navigation' although its mission is study of x-ray sources far away. I think somebody at NASA has a bit of debugging to do on their java applet.

Hit Satellite, select. Click on the satellite, click on the Sat. Info button. Then look at the browser window.

Holy crap, on the low-earth orbits, how can they be sure they'll never collide? There's so MANY of em. I'd have never guessed.

Precisely with databases and tracking systems like the one you're looking at. Although I'm sure we're looking at a somewhat smaller version of the real list of every bird and piece of space junk.

There's so MANY of em.

And it's funny to note how many of them are iridium birds.

Do a web search on "iridium flares", that's kind of interesting...

Ah. My ad-blocker software was killing anything with "/realtime/" in the URL, hence the fact that I never saw results...
