Ever since I got my empeg I've been searching for the stop button.

Not always do I want to continue playing where I left off, right off the bat -- but I don't see any immediately obvious way to put the player into the on, but inactive state aside from power-cycling the device.

Help, please.

There isn't really a "stop" mode as such. Do you mean after starting your car (or bringing it inside to load tunes and plugging the power pack in) you don't necessarily want it to continue from where it was when it powered down?

If so, the top button will pause the unit and holding it down will put the unit into standby. Standby basically only stops the player and turns off the display. You can do everything like syncing etc while in standby.

Does that help?

And I can't see how power cycling would help you? Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you mean exactly.

I may be fishing... but it sounds to me as if you want it to act like a CD player? One that has a stop button, anyway. You want to leave it on when there is no music playing, but NOT have it pick up in the middle of the song you left off on? With all of the things that are better about the empeg than any other head unit... this sounds like a step backwards to me.

Personally, if I pause the song for some reason and want to start over from the beginning of the song or the playlist (which would be an album in my case), I have no problem pressing the extra buttons.

Whoops, I was mistaken -- thanks for calling me on that. After applying power to the device, it boots up, displays its logo(s), then goes into standby. Bringing it back from standby causes it to continue playing where it left off.

I guess the easiest way to implement what I'm looking for is to add the ability to fast-forward to the end of the current playlist.

Deadfire: I'm not looking to leave the unit powered up and inactive for any length of time -- I agree that that'd be dumb, when the unit isn't playing music it should probably be in standby.

I just think it'd be nice to be able to get in my car, turn on my empeg, then choose the music I'd like to hear in blissful silence. Sure, I really enjoy Kompressor, but when my grandmother gets in my car I don't want her to have a heart attack.

To make the player go into standby without rebooting it, press and hold the top button on the faceplate.

Is that what you were looking for?

I understand what you mean, but what would be the effective difference here between stop and pause? The only thing I can think of is, possibly, a difference in the display. If a stop mode were implemented, you'd have to either press the stop button before you turned it off the previous time it was on, or press it as soon as it turned on. You can do the same thing with pause.

Or maybe you mean that you want it to be not playing music every time you turn it on. You might be able to do this with Hijack's IR Translations, telling it to pause the player every time it came on. I have some doubts, though, since I seem to remember that pause is a toggle and there's no way to get the current state. Can someone help me out on that piece of knowledge?

With pure IR-translation, this wouldn't be possible. But, to the best of my knowledge, HiJack supported sending "serial" commands to the player for quite some time now, and the "W" serial command puts the player in pause mode, while " " starts playing again.

+ + +

hmmm, i always pause my player before disconnecting power to it. then when i reapply power it's paused at the same point and ready to complete the playlist. if i wanted to scroll thru the rest of the tracks i could just forward ahead thru each track. works just like a cd to me [oh but so much better].

When I first got my player I went on the quest for stop mode. We've all been brainwashed by electronics companies after years of cd players and vcr's. They want us to think that a stop mode is how playback devices should work.

As children, we do not seperate the stoppable playback devices from the unstoppable which is why the youger a mind is the easier it is to free while a mind like yours can be very difficult.

It's that feeling you have had all your life. That feeling that something was wrong with the world's playback devices. You don't know what it is but it's there, like a splinter in your mind driving you mad, driving you to me. But what is it? Stop buttons are everywhere, they're all around us, here even in this room. You can see them out your window, or on your television. You feel them when you go to work, or go to church or pay your taxes. They are the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

Wow. This thread took a quick metaphysical turn to the up...

"Time is an everlasting NOW divided into hours, minutes and seconds for the convenience of mankind."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a cd player will fire up right where you left off when you turn your car on if you don't pause it or remove the cd, what's the difference?

Well, I guess there isn't. Not when it gets used in the car anyway. The confusion starts when it gets used in-house.

Mine doesn't.

Sure, it remembers which track to replay, but the exact time within the track? Not on mine. Probably on yours, though.

Cheers

You must have a pretty old car cd player Mark. My Alpine stacker remembers exactly where in the song it was upto, what mode it was in and in the case of shuffle mode (M.I.X. in Alpine speak) it even remembers which tracks it had already played on that disc.

Everytime you get in the car, the last song starts over again?
