Greetings!
I recently received my order of buttons from Brian. WOW! They are works of art! I know it has been said before, but they are fantastic! I am already on Mark's installation queue - I can barely even see the pads on the resistor let alone solder them to anything. I really respect anyone who can solder them in place and get the thing to work, let alone in quantity. Pics will be available once it is ready.
Brian: Thanks again!
To everyone waiting for their turn: They are worth the wait!

Greetings!
Well, until the soldering is done, I can only get a pic (well, scan: flatbed at the office, but no digital camera) of the smoke buttons with smoke face with wooden fascia. I will do that after my sync finishes (it is doing a disk check, so this will take about an hour and a half). It really looks good!!!
Someone a little while ago was looking for black buttons - the smoke (unlit) against the smoke lens is a nice set!

Greetings!
Well, for those interested, here is a scan of a player with Brian's smoke buttons, Rob's wooden fascia and Steve's smoke lens. This scan was taken on a really old flatbed, and the translucent smoke buttons picked up a faintly amber cast from the light from the scanner bar and reflected from the wood. Still, it gives a good impression. In natural lighting, the buttons look almost black and match the smoke lens very well. Nicely understated. I will try and get a pic in-dash later.

Or it doesn't exist due to the move of the database. I think it's still in progress. The board would have told him if the file was too large.

I saw the photo this morning, so it was uploaded right. We forgot to check the files folder for any changes from when I origionally got the BBS files. Feel free to re upload it, or I'll work with Paul to get it and anything else recently uploaded.

Wow, too cool. Now if only we could do wood-grain handles...

That looks really good. Also had a look at the pictures on your web site for the first. So cool
Can't wait to get my kit too (on order).

That woodgrain front would look sooo good in my jaguar xjs. Also, I can solder that smd stuff, I have made little boards like that before.

Greetings!
Thanks! I am very pleased with the way it worked out. I am still hoping that Rob will continue making the fascia - one of mine is broken (stress from the burl), and I would like to get a third. I know he had posted a while back that he was ordering wood, but I haven't heard in a while.
I really like the amber with the wood. That, I think, is the best so far. As to the smoke, I am almost tempted to go back to the standard black fascia. With the empeg off (or without lighting the buttons), it would be total stealth. Black controls on a black background with black handles, etc.

Yes, that would look nice too. I am so happy with the light blue lens I got from Steve last week. I can see the display so much easier now in the sunlight. I would like to get a button kit too... I was thinking of just getting the buttons and making the rest myself, but Im not shure where Brian is getting the small white leds and the smd resistor pack. I like his new 4 led board it looks really nice. I am pretty good with smd stuff becuase I am so nearsighted just dont ask me to read any far away signs.

Photo of smoke buttons / lens / wood fascia in dash. I just realized how badly I need to vacuum the car...

Looks nice, it would be really cool if you could get a wood handle too

True, but the handle would still need to have some structural reinforcement in order to hold the unit and stand up to standard use / abuse. And I am not certain what the spring mechanism looks like.

Hmm, the current handle is screwed into the spring loaded levers. It's probably easy to replace, but making one as strong as the stock handle out of wood probably isn't possible.
Perhaps a better solution would be to make metal handles painted/anodised with a mock wood finish? Again, I'd imagine this being quite difficult (and expensive) to machine so it fits the empeg perfectly.

Aragon

Mmm.. It would be relatively easy to use wood for the horizontal grip part of the handle, but the side-wings are another story.. major stress factors and tighter tolerances there.
Cheers

Well you could always use the same trick that jaguar uses on thier dash, use the stock handle and coat it with a really thin laminate of wood. It would probably come off too easy though.
