Ok, I'm having MAJOR bugs with this MK2.

I'll try to enumerate them as best I can:

I've pretty steadily got a "Synch Process Failed during stage 6 with error 0xfffffffe" when emplode is first trying to connect to the empeg after the empeg has been playing (or is playing) music. A power cycle of the empeg fixes this and lets me run emplode.

I've just recently gotten a "Synch process failed during stage 11 with error 0xffffffff" when uploading an album to the empeg via ethernet. It successfully uploaded the songs, then gave me this error after the empeg rebooted.

While playing music, the player randomly stops playing the current track and starts playing the next one. It only makes it through about 20 seconds of each track.

Several times, I've tried to hit the menu button (down) and it simply reboots the empeg. Right now, every time I hit the menu down button it reboots the empeg. (Currently playing a track)

Ok, playlists seem to be screwy too. I hit "previous track" on track #5 of a CD and it will not go to track #4. It starts track #5 over. If I push "previous track" QUICKLY, it reboots the player.

I'm getting some VERY interesting errors on the serial output... Just so everyone knows, I installed the developer 11b that Hugo posted.

This is actually just one bug - that 11b was giving the player 8Mb instead of 12Mb. The player is then *very* low on memory and things get very upset, with lots of stuff failing (all the error 12 - error 12 is ENOMEM).

Sorted! (Sort of...)
Still all sorts of errors on my twin-cpu box running NT4, but success on an old PPro box, except that synchronisation fails at the very end every time - possibly because I'm running MSIE older than 5, I dunno.
(the twin box can get between one and three tracks on before bombing out, but the database stays intact, which is nice :)
Getting there! If you want detailed debug from the twin box, let me know. (This is using Ethernet. USB from a win2000 box went fine, but USB is a pain in the arse)

Update - just blasted 5 gigs on over Ethernet. - no problems at all, except the silly one at the very end - 0xffffffff in stage 10. FYI, that's with MSIE3.0 under NT4 SP4. (Still stuffed on the twin CPU box, though, but I can live with that)

Logs would be great - send them to [email protected] as usual. I think the stage 10 error is an ethernet-specific one to do with reconnecting to the player for the final database download after the sync has completed. Do a small sync please, otherwise the log will be huge :)

4 or 5 hours - I wasn't really paying attention. You can probably get it to go faster, but I was pulling the data from a server, all on the same hubbed 10meg net. Blech. As soon as I pull some more cables, everything's going onto a 100meg switch, and I'll post more realistic numbers.

You really should not be using SP4 on NT; it has far too many IP based problems, and also introduces timing problems on multi-processor machines. Most places I know using NT nave gone directly from 3 to 5. 6A is actually better, but introduces problems itself. There are a number of online articles in the M$ knowledge base regarding multi-processor problems resulting from the application of SP4. Sorry, I have no reference to hand.

IE3 illegally modifies kernel DLL sets, and given that IE4 is buggy and unstable (plus bulky in the extreme) you should dump it an go to 5.

Yeah, but that machine's old & stable, and mostly just used as a server, so it's going to stay exactly the way it is :) (or get cleaned & linuxed...)
I can't remember how to ask an NT box what SP it's running (without a reboot), so I could be wrong about what I'm running on the twin.

Just about any desktop application (eg the calculator), go to Help/About and it should give you system details. Otherwise go through the Control Panel to the System applet and it will tell you there.

SP5 on the twin box. (I was trying to find it in control_panel -> system, but if it's there, it's well hidden. Obviously, calculator -> help -> about is the place to be looking. Aaargh.)
Anyway, nothing to worry about, anyway. I'll do a logged sync, see if it still fails.
