sorry, i missed the thead that was mentioned in the release notes. can someone explain how enqueue differs from insert? i enqueued a song in the middle of a playlist, and it came on after the current song finished. that is the behavior i used to get from insert. (i have not tried insert yet to see what the difference is).

also, is there a way to make the default action for "play" be enqueue? (i.e. when selecting a song or playlist, if i click the knob or down-button, it would automatically enqueue, rather than reset the whole playlist).

thanks

enqueue puts the track in after all of the other enqueued tracks.
insert puts the track in after the currently playing track.

If you insert/enqueue only once, the behaviour is the same for both actions.

There is no way to make Enqueue the default action, but I updated the FAQ yesterday to give details on the difference between Insert and Enqueue. Do a search on Enqueue and you'll find it.

I've got to say that I agree that I really want a way to make enque the default action. I never want to just play a single song, and rarely want to just play a certain playlist. I don't know how many times it took me to make the long-press-short-press my default action mentally, and every time I have a friend make up their own playlist they screw it up halfway through and give up...

You can make enqueue the default action on SEARCHES...

And you can search for tunes faster than you can scroll through the menus for tunes...

And you can also seach on playlist names...

Have you spent much time doing searches?

Not if you're a passenger typical of mine - many of them like to browse playlists, picking tracks out as they go (and using the handy "back to where you where" long-press of the Playlists menu-item for speed). Search is only likely to be quicker if you know what you want before you see it...

Am I the only one confused by that?

Nope. I think the key is that there should be a period after ``always''.

Tony, I've lost my remote. Searching is not quicker.

Tony,
Is there a way to make insert, replace or append default actions? I know you can with a search but what about when browsing playlists? If this is optional, I was unaware.

I believe I answered this question already in the very first sentence of my first reply to this thread.

Technically you didn't...

"There is no way to make Enqueue the default action"

This would seem to leave the door open for our other action choices to be set as the default. At least that's what I thought.

That line looks very clear to me. There is no way to make enqueue the default action. There is no way to make anything the default action - its a pop up menu, and you select what you want to do. Why would there be a way to make insert or append default, but not enqueue?

Terminator,
Basically, because "Enqueue" is a new action (or an old one re-named) I thought maybe it was "left out" of being able to be chosen as default. The whole idea of the possibility of being able to set your default preference just came to me while reading this thread. Because in Tony's statement he didn't mention the other actions, I thought the option to chose your default was something I may be missing or overlooking. Even in your response you wrote:

"There is no way to make anything the default action - its a pop up menu"

Had Tony's original post said that (or something similar), I wouldn't have even had the notion that setting the other actions as defaults may be possible. Just a simple misunderstanding, no reason to try and make me look like a fool for asking.

Sorry to be so snippy, I thought you were trying to be a smartass and backpedal your way out of that one :-) The word technically is a "bs management" word which red flagged it as a bs post (to me). People here are very helpful, if there was some way to set anything as a default preference, Tony would have mentioned it. I think the default he was mentioning was referring to the search options.

I suppose one could screen-scrape this and have Hijack modify the default action..

Patches accepted, but I'm not likely to do it on my own for now.
