Hi Mark,

As you may rememebr I mentioned this bug quite a while ago: when skipping to the next song, I get a W on next to the hdd icon, and I hear the disks spinning up. This happen almost always when I skip to teh next track, and sometimes even when the player goes to the next track in the playlist without me skipping anything, in the normal playback.
I thought this happened due to a bug in the software but now I think it depends on Hijack. Today I installed beta13 and I noticed I did not have the problem after the update. So I played around with it and never had the W sign. Then I installed Hijack 283 and I started to have the problem again. So a couple of hours ago I reinstalled the factory kernel, beta 13 plain, and I don't have the probloem anymore. I've been skipping back and forth for a couple of hours now,without having the W sign at all.
Maybe somebody else can confirm this if they want to try?

After playing around for much longer, I got the W a couple of times. Still, it it much much less frequent than with Hijack. Maybe when Hijack is installed I have less memory for caching? I have no idea...

My configuration is:
Mark 2a, 60Gb (30+30) v. 2.00b13 .

Not a hijack bug. The only thing in hijack that could affect this is the config.ini [hijack] spindown_seconds=xx parameter. If you set that to zero, then it will be completely disabled on the NEXT REBOOT, and Hijack will then not touch the harddrives (except for http and web access, after which they will never spin down again until the player software decides to tell them to).

And please refrain from startling the masses by putting "hijack" and "bug" together on the subject line before confirming it.

In his defense, he was pretty convinced that the problem only happened with hijack installed, and never without hijack installed.

What "W" are you speaking of, the little hourglass thingie? I have been running beta 11 with all diferent versions of hijack and I havnt had any problems <BEN goes to find some wood to knock on> maybe you have some bad memory or somthing.

The W thing is one of the new disk activity icon indicators. The presence of the W doesn't necessarily indicate an error, it just means that the audio thread is waiting for data.

No, it's an actual W. I think you have to enable it in emplode first to see it.

Just pointing out something, which I'm curious about...

1. I'm assuming that the player will load the current track (upon bootup), and use all avaiable memory to store upcoming tracks?
2. If #1 is true, is it possible, that with Higher-encoded MP3's, that with Hijack loaded and any other little programs running in the background (telnetd, etc), less memory is left for audio date storage?
