is there currently a way to 'jump' to the next album playlist during playback of a song? i'd like to be able to select the main madonna playlist for example, listen to a song or two, and then jump to a different album and continue playback.

thanks

Programmatically? I guess it's possible, if you're willing to parse /proc/empeg_notify and jump about.

If you posted in the wrong forum, and meant using the player software, then yes, depending on what you mean. You could press and hold 3 on your Rio remote (no joy with the Kenwood, I'm afraid) to remove the current album completely from the running order. Or, if you want to come back at some point, set a bookmark then either do the above or replace with the playlist you want (using long-press on "Playlists" to get you near your original selection).

well, i have no idea what parse /proc/empeg_notify means but you are understanding what i want to do. removing the album from the playlist is not what i intended to do (in case i want to go back) but i think this will work.

thanks

Right now, the playback engine has no knowledge of the "tree structure" at playback time.

For example, if your tree had:

Rush
.....Permanent Waves
.....Moving Pictures
.....Signals
.....Grace Under Pressure

When you play the Rush playlist, it "flattens" that tree before playing it. Once the songs are playing, it doesn't "know" one album from the next, it just knows that there's a flat list of songs where "Tom Sawyer" (Moving Pictures track 1) comes after "Natural Science" (Permanent Waves last track).

So there's no way to do it in the default software without rewriting how it handles the playlist tree.

Programatically, I don't know how a third-party app could possibly hook into the player app to be able to reliably control this.

Hmmm, does Notify put "Source" in the /proc tree? If so, maybe a loop that sends "Skip forward" until "Source" changes? I don't know how quickly the stuff in /proc gets updated though - the screen can lag quite a bit when doing multiple quick skip forwards...

Easy. Hold down the 'Source' button...it'll remove all songs that match the current album from the current playlist, hence moving you to the next album.

Isn't this one in the FAQ?

This is my number one RFE for the player. But I guess it's likely that it'll never happen now....
