Whenever I operate my empeg with the serial port connected to either of my two PCs I get a lot (a *lot*) of noise from my speakers. It's a low-frequency hum.

Aside from simply leaving my empeg's serial port disconnected, can anyone recommend a solution?

thanks,

C

It's a ground loop, so solve it the way you'd solve any other ground loop (with lots of trial and error).

Something to know about the empeg's serial port: You only need to use pins 2, 3, and 5. That's all I've got connected in my home docking stations, and it works well without inducing any ground loops. Maybe that's all you need is a connector that only touches the empeg with those three pins.

Another thing to try is to use a different power supply.

I still get some ground loop noise through the analog outs on my Rio even with the two prong AC adapter recommended elsewhere as a solution to ground loop issues, but then I don't use analog outs anymore so it doesn't bother me.
